So far, the fires have killed&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/world\/us\/how-did-hawaii-wildfires-start-what-know-about-maui-big-island-blazes-2023-08-11\/\">at least 96 people<\/a> and more victims are expected. Meanwhile, thousands of survivors are without shelter, water, electricity or phone service.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/preprod.housingwire.com\/tag\/corelogic\/\">CoreLogic <\/a>estimates that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.corelogic.com\/intelligence\/blogs\/hazard-hq\/devastating-wildfires-raging-on-maui-hawaii\/\">3,088 homes<\/a>, primarily in the Lahaina area, were damaged or destroyed in the fires. In addition, the total estimated reconstruction costs hover around $1.3 billion. President Biden on Friday <a href=\"https:\/\/www.whitehouse.gov\/briefing-room\/presidential-actions\/2023\/08\/10\/president-joseph-r-biden-jr-approves-hawaii-disaster-declaration-3\/\">issued a major disaster declaration<\/a> for Maui County, and the <strong>U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development<\/strong> announced <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hud.gov\/press\/press_releases_media_advisories\/HUD_No_23_169\">additional disaster relief measures<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-realtors-relief-foundation-pledges-1-5-million-relief-grant\"><strong>REALTORS&nbsp;Relief Foundation pledges $1.5 million relief grant <\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nar.realtor\/about-nar\/grants-and-funding\/realtors-relief-foundation\">Realtors Relief Foundation<\/a><\/strong> is giving out $1.5 million in disaster relief aid to the Realtors Association of Maui to support victims. Funds will be directed towards disaster victims\u2019 housing payments, said an official statement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cMaui\u2019s recent wildfires have deeply impacted its residents, and we stand by them during this challenging time,\u201d said RRF President Mike McGrew. \u201cRRF grants aim to ease the path towards recovery, offering tangible aid to those rebuilding their lives. As real estate agents, we recognize that unity and community spirit are invaluable, especially when facing such trying circumstances.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/preprod.housingwire.com\/tag\/national-association-of-realtors\/\"><strong>National Association of Realtors<\/strong><\/a> will cover all administrative costs of the grant, ensuring 100% of all funds collected are distributed directly to disaster relief causes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Brokerages jump in to help agents <\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>In the aftermath of the Hawaii disaster, some brokerages stepped up as well. <strong>Keller Williams<\/strong>&#8216; public charity, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kwcares.org\/\">KW Cares<\/a>, is providing basic health, welfare, housing and transportation services to Keller Williams\u2019 associates affected by the disaster in Maui.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cAmid the Hawaii wildfires, KW Cares is on a mission to support our agents who have been impacted,\u201d said Alexia Rodriguez, CEO of KW Cares. \u201cOur team remains in touch with our agents and leaders on the ground to offer support. We&#8217;re here to make a difference from emergency assistance to long-term recovery.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As of now, the brokerage reported that 11 KW agents lost their homes to fire, while&nbsp;three agents lost homes belonging to their family members.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Other real estate organizations helping affected agents and their families are <strong>eXtend a Hand<\/strong>, <strong>Hawai\u2019i Life<\/strong> and <strong>Anywhere<\/strong>, as reported by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.realestatenews.com\/2023\/08\/12\/industry-moves-quickly-to-support-maui-relief-efforts\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Real Estate News<\/a>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Meanwhile, both <a href=\"https:\/\/preprod.housingwire.com\/tag\/fannie-mae\/\">Fannie Mae<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/preprod.housingwire.com\/tag\/freddie-mac\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Freddie Mac<\/a> continue to highlight their <a href=\"https:\/\/freddiemac.gcs-web.com\/news-releases\/news-release-details\/freddie-mac-reminds-homeowners-affected-devastating-wildfires\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">immediate relief options<\/a> for those affected by the Maui wildfires.
