{"id":4256,"date":"2023-04-26T17:29:20","date_gmt":"2023-04-26T17:29:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/preprod.realtrends.com\/blog\/2023\/04\/26\/real-estate-trade-group-issue-support-of-huds-affh-rule\/"},"modified":"2025-03-13T02:50:47","modified_gmt":"2025-03-13T02:50:47","slug":"real-estate-trade-group-issue-support-of-huds-affh-rule","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/preprod.realtrends.com\/blog\/2023\/04\/26\/real-estate-trade-group-issue-support-of-huds-affh-rule\/","title":{"rendered":"Real estate trade groups signal support for HUD\u2019s AFFH rule"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Real estate trade groups are uniting in support of the <strong>Department of Housing and Urban Development\u2019s<\/strong> (<a href=\"https:\/\/preprod.housingwire.com\/tag\/hud\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">HUD<\/a>) proposed Affirmatively Furthering Fair Housing rule (AFFH).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The <strong>National Association of Realtors<\/strong> (<a href=\"https:\/\/preprod.housingwire.com\/tag\/national-association-of-realtors\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">NAR<\/a>), the <strong>National Association of Real Estate Brokers<\/strong> (<a href=\"https:\/\/preprod.housingwire.com\/tag\/national-association-of-real-estate-brokers\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">NAREB<\/a>), the <strong>National Association of Hispanic Real Estate Professionals<\/strong> (<a href=\"https:\/\/preprod.housingwire.com\/tag\/national-association-of-hispanic-real-estate-professionals\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">NAHREP<\/a>), the <strong>Asian Real Estate Association of America<\/strong> (AREAA), and the <strong>LGBTQ+ Real Estate Alliance<\/strong> (the Alliance) jointly issued a statement on Wednesday in support of the rule.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;NAR advocates tirelessly for policies that help close homeownership gaps and increase access to affordable homeownership for every American. Realtors are champions for diverse, inclusive communities where everyone can thrive,\u201d Kenny Parcell, the 2023 NAR president, said in a statement. \u201cBy prioritizing robust community engagement, HUD can support communities as they find local solutions to local fair housing issues.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The AFFH provides guidance and tools for cities and states that receive HUD funding to find local solutions to reverse segregated housings patterns. The regulation is designed to help implement the Fair Housing Act\u2019s directive that HUD and funding recipients take action to overcome patterns of segregation and foster inclusive communities free from discrimination. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The rule also provides more robust community engagement, streamlines processes for funding recipients, provides greater transparent and places a new emphasis on expanding homeownership opportunities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe Affirmatively Furthering Fair Housing rule is a critical tool for addressing the segregated neighborhoods that continue to exist, despite the enactment of the Fair Housing Act 55 years ago,\u201d Lydia Pope, the president of NAREB, said in a statement. \u201cThis rule can ensure that state and local jurisdictions that receive federal housing funds incorporate fair housing policies in their communities. It provides a much-needed government push to address segregated housing patterns and promote diverse communities. The federal government needs this leverage to pursue more equitable communities and help close the racial wealth gap.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The new AFFH rule expands upon the AFFH rule <a href=\"https:\/\/preprod.housingwire.com\/articles\/hud-takes-first-step-to-restore-fair-housing-rule\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">HUD implemented in 2015<\/a>, which the trade
