{"id":3840,"date":"2023-01-04T15:34:35","date_gmt":"2023-01-04T15:34:35","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/preprod.realtrends.com\/blog\/2023\/01\/04\/stephen-capezza-leaves-zillow-for-side\/"},"modified":"2025-03-13T02:48:35","modified_gmt":"2025-03-13T02:48:35","slug":"stephen-capezza-leaves-zillow-for-side","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/preprod.realtrends.com\/blog\/2023\/01\/04\/stephen-capezza-leaves-zillow-for-side\/","title":{"rendered":"Stephen Capezza leaves Zillow for Side"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Stephen Capezza is leaving <strong>Zillow<\/strong> to join white-label brokerage <strong>Side<\/strong> after being named president of the firm, according to an announcement on Tuesday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the newly created role, Capezza will be tasked with driving \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/preprod.realtrends.com\/blog\/articles\/side-shrinking-growing-and-staying-cautious\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Side\u2019s continued growth<\/a>,\u201d according to the press release.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cSteve is the exact right person to help guide Side through the next phase of our growth,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/preprod.realtrends.com\/blog\/articles\/sides-guy-gal-on-trends-in-the-team-business-model\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Guy Gal<\/a>, the CEO of Side, said in a statement. \u201cHe has significant industry experience, and a deep understanding of the specific needs of the top-producing agents and teams we partner with at Side.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Most recently Capezza served a senior vice president of business operations at Zillow, where he oversaw the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/preprod.realtrends.com\/blog\/articles\/zillow-testing-major-changes-to-premier-agent-program\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Zillow Premier Agent<\/a><\/strong> program. Capezza joined Zillow in 2015, moving to the firm through Zillow\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/preprod.housingwire.com\/articles\/33354-trulias-market-leader-now-available-on-zillow\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">acquisition of <strong>Trulia<\/strong><\/a>, where he had led Trulia\u2019s San Francisco sales and operations team for two years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cSide\u2019s platform is the future of brokerage,\u201d Capezza said in a statement. \u201cI\u2019m thrilled to play a role in expanding this unique model so that even more agents, teams, and independent brokers across the country can take ownership of their business and careers.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Capezza is just the most recent executive named to the Side team over the past 12 months. In March 2022, the firm appointed Michelle Denogean as chief marketing officer and in August, Side added Carmine \u201cCJ\u201d Napolitano as CFO.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWith this experienced executive team in place, we will continue to advance our mission to transform the best real estate agents into companies that they own, and help those companies continue to grow,\u201d said Gal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Despite these additions, Side has struggled in recent months, undergoing <a href=\"https:\/\/preprod.realtrends.com\/blog\/articles\/side-makes-another-round-of-layoffs\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">two rounds of layoffs<\/a> in the last <a href=\"https:\/\/preprod.realtrends.com\/blog\/articles\/side-lays-off-about-40-employees\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">half<\/a> of the year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Side raised $200 million in 2021 for a&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/preprod.realtrends.com\/blog\/articles\/side-raises-second-round-of-financing-doubles-valuation-to-2-5-billion\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">valuation of $2.5 billion<\/a>&nbsp;at the time.
