Business Insider reported that, per sources, another private-equity firm could also be involved in the deal, which might include a property technology startup to bolster <a href=\"https:\/\/preprod.realtrends.com\/blog\/articles\/can-tech-point-compass-in-the-right-direction\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Compass&#8217;s digital offerings<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A Compass spokesperson denied that any talks have occurred, telling <a href=\"https:\/\/therealdeal.com\/2022\/10\/05\/compass-denies-private-equity-takeover-talks\/?utm_source=internal&amp;utm_medium=widget&amp;utm_campaign=feature_posts\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">The Real Deal<\/a>: &#8220;no private-equity firm has contacted Compass expressing any interest in taking the company private.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Vista Equity Partners declined to comment to Business Insider.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If a sale was to occur, Compass\u2019s CEO Robert Reffkin would have to approve a deal as he controls roughly half of the voting power of the firm.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Compass raised $450 million in its New York Stock Exchange debut in April 2021, reaching a market capitalization of $8 billion on its first day of trading. Since then, its stock has dropped more than 85% and the brokerage is currently valued at just over $1 billion. The company has lost nearly $800 million over the last 18 months.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Compass\u2019s share surged 11.4 percent during after-hours trading after news of the deal to take it private broke.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In addition, Compass has undergone <a href=\"https:\/\/preprod.realtrends.com\/blog\/articles\/compass-chasing-profitability-makes-another-round-of-cuts\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">three rounds of layoffs<\/a> in the past five months, including the firing of the firm\u2019s chief technology officer Joseph Sirosh, whom the brokerage does not intend to replace.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>During the <a href=\"https:\/\/preprod.realtrends.com\/blog\/articles\/compass-ends-recruitment-incentive-program-amid-growing-losses\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">second quarter of 2022<\/a>, Compass lost $101 million. The firm attributed the net loss to \u201chigher expenses related to strategic business initiatives, non-cash stock compensation, depreciation and amortization as well as restructuring&nbsp;charges due to the cost-saving actions announced on June 14.\u201d The brokerage\u2019s largest expense was for \u201ccommissions and other related expenses,\u201d which came in at $1.62 billion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The company plans to cut its expenses by $320 million this year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Despite its <a href=\"https:\/\/preprod.housingwire.com\/articles\/inside-compasss-colorful-past-and-publicly-traded-future\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">financial struggles<\/a>, Compass is a prolific real estate brokerage.
