According to an August 17 regulatory filing, Sirosh sold more than 222,460 shares between August 17-19 and collected $868,000 in proceeds. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>More than $900 million has been pumped into Compass&#8217;s technology platform, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2022-08-25\/compass-parts-ways-with-chief-technology-officer-joseph-sirosh\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Bloomberg<\/a>, and while the technology has been <a href=\"https:\/\/preprod.realtrends.com\/blog\/articles\/can-tech-point-compass-in-the-right-direction\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">favorably viewed by agents<\/a> across the company, it hasn&#8217;t made a difference in the company&#8217;s profitability. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This money has gone to acquire tech-focused companies, like the customer relationship management, or CRM, platform&nbsp;<strong>Contactually<\/strong>,&nbsp;<strong>Glide<\/strong>, which is used by the&nbsp;<strong>California Association of Realtors&nbsp;<\/strong>to&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/preprod.housingwire.com\/articles\/compass-acquisition-could-worry-some-california-agents\/?__hstc=43385018.3580f2db3ddbe8fcf47fa6c91c7501c6.1641567229247.1661461972505.1661519515388.704&amp;__hssc=43385018.15.1661519515388&amp;__hsfp=1562363153\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">digitize the administrative paperwork of home sales<\/a>, and&nbsp;<strong>Modus Technologies<\/strong>, a title platform that Compass shut down last month as part of the company\u2019s&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/preprod.realtrends.com\/blog\/articles\/compass-lays-off-450-halts-trading-on-nyse\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">sweeping austerity measures<\/a>.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It also went to hire \u201ca team of over 1,500 highly experienced product and engineering professionals based out of our innovation hubs in New York, Seattle, Washington D.C. and several cities in India,\u201d according to the 2021 annual report, filed with the&nbsp;<strong>Securities and Exchange Commission<\/strong>&nbsp;in February. Compass declined to specify for this article how many tech employees were laid off as part of its June layoffs.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-committed-to-its-tech-platform\">Committed to its tech platform<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>However, they did assure RealTrends that they are committed to its in-house technology platform. When asked if they would consider moving to a third-party platform like <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/preprod.realtrends.com\/blog\/articles\/re-max-banks-on-strategic-growth-initiatives\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">RE\/MAX<\/a><\/strong> did, a company spokesperson responded, &#8220;Absolutely not, we have just restructured our tech leadership team to report to our Chief Operating Officer Greg Hart, who previously ran the Amazon Prime Video tech team. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He went on to say, \u201cWith the successful rollout of the Compass technology platform, Compass now enters its next phase with the largest technology team in our industry, focused on enhancing and building tools that help our over 28,000 agent-entrepreneurs grow their businesses. We are excited to announce that Kendra Shimmell and Shay Artzi will step into the roles of Head of Product and Head of Engineering.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Cost-cutting at Compass<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Compass<\/strong>, which ranked No. 1 by sales volume in the <a href=\"https:\/\/preprod.realtrends.com\/blog\/real-trends-500\/\">2022 RealTrends 500<\/a> has struggled to turn a profit after losing $101 million in the second quarter this year. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The firm attributed the net loss to \u201chigher expenses related to strategic business initiatives, non-cash stock compensation, depreciation and amortization as well as restructuring\u00a0charges due to the cost-saving actions announced on June 14.\u201d The brokerage\u2019s largest expense was for \u201ccommissions and other related expenses,\u201d which came in at $1.62 billion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Reffkin recently announced a pivot in business strategy \u2014 called their &#8220;Plan for Transformation&#8221; \u2014 noting that the firm will no longer offer <a href=\"https:\/\/preprod.realtrends.com\/blog\/articles\/compass-ends-recruitment-incentive-program-amid-growing-losses\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">recruitment incentives<\/a>.
