{"id":3312,"date":"2022-07-15T21:04:34","date_gmt":"2022-07-15T21:04:34","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/preprod.realtrends.com\/blog\/2022\/07\/15\/side-shrinking-growing-and-staying-cautious\/"},"modified":"2025-03-13T02:44:33","modified_gmt":"2025-03-13T02:44:33","slug":"side-shrinking-growing-and-staying-cautious","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/preprod.realtrends.com\/blog\/2022\/07\/15\/side-shrinking-growing-and-staying-cautious\/","title":{"rendered":"Side shrinking, growing and staying cautious"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Side has assembled new brokerage teams even as the San Francisco-based company has  laid off 10% of its workforce in May and the housing market has become hugely volatile.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The brokerage has in the past three weeks brought on<a href=\"https:\/\/www.prweb.com\/releases\/collective_real_estate_partners_with_side_strengthening_its_platform_to_enhance_its_client_services\/prweb18735735.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"> Anthem, Arizona-based<\/a> <strong>Collective Real<\/strong> <strong>Estate<\/strong> and<a href=\"https:\/\/www.prweb.com\/releases\/signal_real_estate_partners_with_side_to_elevate_the_real_estate_journey_for_massachusetts_buyers_and_sellers\/prweb18750022.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"> Boston-based<\/a> <strong>Signal Real Estate<\/strong>. They also brought on Heather Herr, whose Cincinnati&#8217;s <strong>Team Herr<\/strong>, was<a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/in\/heatherherr\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"> named the no. 1 small<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/in\/heatherherr\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">team in Ohio<\/a> in RealTrend&#8217;s 2021 rankings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Three Charleston, South Carolina agents \u2013 Jason Wang, Christopher Smith and Nate Gainey \u2013 moved to create,<a href=\"https:\/\/info.sideinc.com\/Side-Expands-Into-South-Carolina\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"> Side\u2019s first team in the Palmetto State<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Side is a white-label brokerage, and each of these teams will have their own branding with Side providing back end support.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The addition of new Side agents was first reported by Inman News. The<a href=\"https:\/\/www.inman.com\/2022\/07\/14\/side-expands-into-6-new-states-amid-market-shift-bringing-total-to-16\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"> publication noted<\/a> that before this wave, Side<a href=\"https:\/\/preprod.realtrends.com\/blog\/articles\/top-elliman-agents-tal-and-oren-alexander-join-side\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"> also partnered with its first New York team of agents in early June<\/a>, led by Tal and Oren Alexander, who enjoy a celebrity clientele. The Alexander brothers came from New York-based luxury firm <strong>Douglas Elliman<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Side\u2019s moves are the latest for a brokerage that it is simultaneously growing, shrinking, and staying cautious.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The addition of the Alexander brothers came a full six months after Side <a href=\"https:\/\/preprod.realtrends.com\/blog\/articles\/fast-growing-brokerage-side-enters-nyc\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">announced its intention<\/a> to expand into New York. And the series of late June agent addition mark the one-year anniversary of Side saying it was prepping an initial public offering. That move<a href=\"https:\/\/preprod.housingwire.com\/articles\/ipo-no-why-real-estate-companies-stopped-going-public\/\"> hasn&#8217;t materialized<\/a> as Wall Street\u2019s valuation of real estate companies took a sharp turn for the worse in early 2022.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The firm announced a layoff of about 10% of its workforce in early June, with CEO Guy Gal<a href=\"https:\/\/preprod.realtrends.com\/blog\/articles\/side-lays-off-about-40-employees\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"> acknowledging the company<\/a> had grew too fast.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>So, what about this subsequent growth of agent teams?
