The reviews are mixed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Some Keller Williams agents see Command as a Swiss Army Knife letting them do home sales on one platform.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cOne of the challenges for a lot of businesses, including Realtors, is that you are constantly jumping between different tech tools and platforms,\u201d said Andrew Mannix, a Keller Williams agent in South Burlington, Vermont. \u201cThe power of Command is not having to pay for all those services.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Others view Command as either not a difference marker or an incursion by Keller Williams into data they view as private.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI have my own system that I use to follow up with clients and stay in touch with clients, which I prefer,\u201d said Lori Hicks, an agent in Columbus, Ohio. \u201cIt gives me the flexibility if I ever decide I want to change brokerages.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Command is the latest attempt by a major American brokerage to show it is not just playing catch-up with consumer technology, but proactively reshaping real estate sales.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cOur goal is nothing short of reinventing how people experience real estate through technology,\u201d Gary Keller, Keller Williams founder and executive chairman of holding company KWx, is seen saying in the aforementioned video.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It comes over a decade after apps hit the mainstream, years after Keller Williams&#8217; own first app, and amid the rise of competing platforms like <strong>Homesnap Pro<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Keller Williams touts itself as the largest real estate franchise network in the world and having more agents \u2013 176,467 as of Dec. 31 \u2013 than any other U.S. company. But the Austin-based business is private, and its reliance on franchise fees \u2013 instead of slivers of sales commissions \u2013 make it almost impossible to even guess at the 39-year-old companies\u2019 size, trajectory, and financial health.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The company declined to say what resources it has put into Command, noting, \u201cKeller Williams does not typically release specific development cost and headcount information.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Chris Cox, the Chief Technology and Digital Officer of KWx, did say, \u201cSince the release, we have observed record levels of engagement\u201d with downloads approaching 60,000.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In a random sampling of Keller Williams agents interviewed, a few said that they downloaded the app, but only because they thought they had to.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cAll KW agents are required to use Command in order to register home sales with the company,\u201d said Mark Siwiec, head of the Mark Siwiec Team, a Rochester, New York-based group of agents. \u201cSo, we are obligated to use Command for that reason. We don\u2019t use it for anything other than the necessary reporting.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Siwiec called Command \u201cclunky\u201d for operating a large team, a criticism echoed by other agents.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIt isn\u2019t always stable,\u201d said Tracy Keffer, head of the Powerhouse Columbus team in Columbus, Ohio. \u201cIf I send an email to 300 people, I\u2019ll look to see who actually got something and it may only be 280 people. So, things get lost sometimes.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Also, Keffer had a very specific complaint. Unlike <strong>Netflix<\/strong>, <strong>Amazon<\/strong>, or other digital platforms, it is impossible for than one person to login to the same Command account.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIf I am using Command to do something, and my assistant gets on it to build a marketing campaign, we can\u2019t do things at the same time. It just won\u2019t work,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Keffer did add that Command \u201cdoes a good job covering the basics,\u201d including an intuitive contact list that helps her send automated texts and emails to clients.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Cox, Keller Williams\u2019 chief technology officer, acknowledged there are kinks to be ironed out.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe are actively working on a form of delegated authentication or \u2018on behalf of\u2019 function that would support designated individuals access to individual agent accounts,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>That agents must download Command to record deals is not quite right, Cox said, as the companies\u2019 original mobile app largely works for that.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Overall, Cox, who joined Keller Williams amid a <a href=\"https:\/\/preprod.housingwire.com\/articles\/josh-team-out-as-keller-williams-president\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">leadership shake-up in February 2021<\/a>, said \u201cfeedback is consistently positive\u201d and, \u201cWe are very happy with the results.\u201d (In Apple\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/apps.apple.com\/us\/app\/kw-command\/id1554908253\">app store<\/a>, Command gets a sterling 4.8 out of 5 stars, but that is based on just 54 reviews.)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Unclear is whether Keller Williams has done <a href=\"https:\/\/preprod.realtrends.com\/blog\/the-evolution-of-the-more-productive-real-estate-agent\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">more, less or about the same<\/a> for its agents in providing technology. Other brokerages, from New York-based <strong>Compass <\/strong>to Chicago-headquartered <strong>@properties<\/strong>, also tout their app as a difference maker.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Anecdotally, an increasing number of agents have migrated to Homesnap Pro, an app that is offered by a multitude of Multiple Listings Services. Homesnap Pro is not affiliated with a brokerage: It is owned by <strong>CoStar<\/strong>, the Washington, D.C. based company that <a href=\"https:\/\/preprod.housingwire.com\/articles\/inside-costar-war-against-zillow\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">recently entered<\/a> the residential real estate market.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A few agents interviewed made clear they would prefer an app that\u2019s not affiliated with a larger real estate institution.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWith Command you kind of lose control of your data,\u201d Mannix said. \u201cIf I leave Keller, I can still export my data, but they will have access to all of it.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Brooklee Han contributed reporting<\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Some Keller Williams agents see Command as a Swiss Army Knife letting them do home sales on one platform.
