Both are making noise, rising quickly up the rankings to the top of select markets around the nation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-compass-s-growth-trajectory\"><strong>Compass&#8217;s growth trajectory<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/preprod.realtrends.com\/blog\/compass-aligns-with-new-englands-kinlin-grover\/\">Compass&#8217;s<\/a> growth story is not unfamiliar. However, just how far they&#8217;ve come deserves recognition. They are leading three markets in California: San Diego, Los Angeles\/Orange County and San Francisco. With 15,528 transaction sides and sales volume of $23,634,228,407 in Los Angeles and Orange County, they are dominating the market. In San Diego, they have 9,567 transaction sides. &#8220;In Greater San Francisco, it&#8217;s lapping the competition with a 13,000+ transaction side lead, but even more importantly, its volume is now more than double its nearest competitor,&#8221; says Scott Wright, a consultant for RealTrends and partner with <a href=\"https:\/\/realtrendsconsulting.com\/\"><strong>RTC Consulting<\/strong><\/a>, which specializes in real estate brokerage M&amp;A, business valuations and consulting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Compass is making headway in other markets as well, with significant growth in Denver, where it&#8217;s in the top 5 in both sides and volume and in Southeast Florida, where it&#8217;s No. 3 in transaction sides and No. 4 in volume. The company has moved into the top 5 in Chicago, into the top 3 in both sides and volume in Philadelphia behind <a href=\"https:\/\/preprod.realtrends.com\/blog\/realtrending-podcast-gino-blefari-homeservices-of-america-changing-strategy\/\"><strong>HomeServices<\/strong><\/a><strong>,<\/strong> and No. 3 in sides and No. 2 in volume in Boston. Robert Reffkin&#8217;s company is in the top 10 in at least 14 markets around the country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-flat-fee-brokerages-climbing-quickly\"><strong>Flat-fee brokerages climbing quickly<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Flat-fee brokerages are gaining momentum around the country. &#8220;Because of their low margins, this business model relies on economies of scale to make money,&#8221; says Wright. And, they&#8217;re growing quickly. Last year, <a href=\"https:\/\/preprod.realtrends.com\/blog\/dan-duffy-ceo-united-real-estate-group-growth-core-services\/\"><strong>United Real Estate<\/strong><\/a> wasn&#8217;t listed on the RealTrends Market Leaders report. But, since it acquired <strong>Benchmark Realty<\/strong> in Nashville and <strong>Virtual Properties<\/strong> in Atlanta, it has entered into the top 10 in Atlanta, No. 1 in Nashville and is in the top 10 in Southeast Florida.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/homesmart.com\/\"><strong>Homesmart&#8217;s<\/strong><\/a> owned company is still No. 1 in Denver by sides, and &#8220;it remains No. 1 in Arizona, with significant franchise growth around the country,&#8221; says Wright. &#8220;Phoenix is a haven for iBuyers but also for flat-fee companies.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.joinequityre.com\/\"><strong>Equity Real Estate<\/strong><\/a> is No. 1 in Salt Lake City. Other flat-fee companies showing up in the report are <strong>Cummings &amp; Co. Realtors<\/strong> in Baltimore, Samson Properties in Washington, D.C., <strong>Latter &amp; Blum<\/strong> in Houston (Latter &amp; Blum is only a flat-fee brokerage in Houston, not Louisiana), <strong>JPAR-Real Estate<\/strong> in Austin and Dallas\/Fort Worth, <strong>Palmer House Properties<\/strong> and <strong>Atlanta Communities Real Estate Brokerage<\/strong> in Atlanta and <strong>Silvercreek Realty Group<\/strong> in Boise, Idaho.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-interesting-trends-to-note\"><strong>Interesting trends to note<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>With Latter &amp; Blum Companies&#8217; acquisition of <strong>Gardner Realtors<\/strong>, they are now more than double their nearest competitor in New Orleans by both sides (6,511) and volume ($2,184,208,980). However, if you combine transaction sides (5,036) for Nos. 2 and 3, <strong>Keller Williams Realty Services<\/strong> and <strong>Keller Williams Realty Metairie<\/strong>, that lead shrinks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.howardhanna.com\"><strong>Howard Hanna Real Estate<\/strong><\/a> bought <strong>Rand Realty<\/strong> last year, and that puts them in the top 5 in New York City by transaction sides. They still dominate Charlotte, North Carolina with the Allen Tate brand. And, they continue to control the market in Cleveland, with a 20,000+ transaction side lead over <strong>Keller Williams Legacy Group Realty, LLC<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>John L. Scott<\/strong> has taken back the No. 1 spot by transaction sides in Greater Seattle, after ranking No. 2 last year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.kw.com\"><strong>Keller Williams<\/strong><\/a> still controls Texas. Across all markets nationwide they were No. 1 in 43 markets by transaction sides.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Corcoran Global Living <\/strong>is one to watch. After becoming The Corcoran Group\u2019s first affiliate in February 2020, the firm is now in the top 10 in the uber-competitive San Francisco market by both sides and volume<em>.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>By transaction sides, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.realogy.com\/\"><strong>Realogy\/RGB Companies<\/strong><\/a> topped the market at No. 1 in 30 metro areas, <strong>Berkshire<\/strong> <strong>Hathaway<\/strong> <strong>HomeServices<\/strong> in 18 and <strong>RE\/MAX<\/strong> in 18 markets.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-markets-where-independents-are-on-top\"><strong>Markets where independents are on top<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>There were 51 independents \u2014 which includes at least 28 that are members of the<strong> <\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.leadingre.com\/\"><strong>Leading Real Estate Companies of the World<\/strong><\/a> \u2014 who are No. 1 in their markets by transaction sides. One to note in Virginia Beach is <strong>Rose &amp; Womble Realty<\/strong>. It maintains the No. 1 spot by sides and volume, fending off franchises in the area.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the Milwaukee\/Lake Geneva area,<strong> Shorewest Realtors <\/strong>has closed transaction sides that are more than double the No. 2, <strong>First Weber Group\/HomeServices<\/strong>. Shorewest is also No. 1 by volume.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In Grand Rapids, Michigan, <strong>Five Star Real Estate <\/strong>continues to edge out the franchise competition.
